Director: Hayao Miyazaki
126 minutes + Q&A

In Japanese with English subtitles

A look at the life of Horikoshi Jiro, the man who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II. Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful aeroplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. Unable to become a pilot due to his eyesight, Jiro joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes one of the world's most innovative and accomplished aeroplane designers.

Followed by a Q&A with Museum curator Uchida Hiromi and a special guest.

Ghibliotheque is a podcast that leafs through the library of films from Japanese animation leaders, Studio Ghibli. In each episode, Michael Leader, an avowed Ghibli fanatic, sits down with Jake Cunningham, who has never seen any of the Studio’s work before. Together they look at the history behind Ghibli's films, get a critical perspective from Jake as a first-time viewer and force Michael to rank some of his favourite ever films.
