Chris joined the British Museum at the beginning of 2017 having worked for over 25 years as an analytical chemist at LGC (formerly known as the Laboratory of the Government Chemist) where he applied mass spectrometry based analysis to a diverse range of application areas including clinical, forensic and food safety.  Mass spectrometry instrumentation can provide both quantitative and qualitative information i.e. what molecules are present and what quantities are present and is capable of routinely quantify molecules in complex mixtures at ultra-trace, part per billion, concentration levels.

Chris is now applying his expertise to analysing an equally diverse set of organic materials found within the British Museum’s collection using the instrumentation in the British Museum’s mass spectrometry facility.
