We are living through a time of huge expansion and growth in the global significance of Asia where, in the last quarter of a century, China, Japan and India have risen to become three of the top economies in the world.

In association with the Asahi Shimbun display What is Europe? Views from Asia, a panel of experts will discuss the following topics: how knowledge of Asia’s past can help us to understand modern shifts in world power; the importance of narrating history from multiple, global perspectives, and the future of Europe in the so-called ‘age of Asia.’

The panel includes acclaimed author and Director of the Oxford University China Centre, Rana Mitter, respected Professor of Indian Cultures and Cinema at SOAS, Rachel Dwyer, and renowned sinologist and librarian, Frances Wood. Chaired by Lecturer in the History of Japan at SOAS, Angus Lockyer.
