Werethekau and the votive stela of
P3-n-'Imn (Bristol Museum H 514)

Ahmed M. Mekawy Ouda

This paper publishes a Ramesside stela preserved at the Bristol Museum that shows a priest worshipping Osiris and the snake goddess Werethekau, ‘the Great of Magic’. The author goes on to explore the nature of Werethekau’s cult, the range and status of her priests, and her associations with kingship ideology. The goddess’s close connection with crowning ceremonies is well documented and here more closely assessed. Data on whether Werethekau had her own temple are also explored.
