- Curator's comments
- Y-shaped mounts are a uniquely Irish Iron Age type of harness-fitting. These fittings were probably suspended from the yoke in pairs, by the two upper terminals, or may have been used to lead horses in procession. Other examples from the British Museum's collections include 1853,0528.4 and 5, 1854,0714.294, 1921,1206.36, and OA.10952. These were published (alongside a loan object from Tower Armouries) by C. Johns (1971).
