In 1970 Kitaj collaborated with Robert Creeley in illustrating his poem, 'A Day Book'. Each print relates to a block of text from Creeley's long prose piece. Kitaj recycled some of the computer drawings created in 1969 when he was working on the 'Art and Technology' project in Los Angeles, for example seen here in the outline profile of the woman. This was Kitaj's final and perhaps his most complex print series. Each page with text is in a different colour and font. One of the prints is on canvas and another is printed on an acetate sheet.
'A Day Book' was published both in book format and as a portfolio of loose prints. The British Museum's copy appears to be a first draft 'mock-up' with many of the prints still at proof stage, later to be changed significantly in their final form.
