Gold chain necklace: 50 links of basic single loop-in-loop construction, with a standard hook and eye clasp, now damaged. The links are very uneven, and there has been extensive crushing damage. Though the wire is thin, it clearly shows the helical grooves of manufacture by twisting.

Jones 1990
When magnified on the scanning electron microscope this can be seen as a good example of block-twisted wire, with numerous helical seams.
-
Like many plain Roman gold necklaces, this object is very small, even if intended to be worn as a choker.
