- Curator's comments
- Although this painting comes from an album, it may have originally illustrated a manuscript, perhaps a collection of lives of Muslim holy men. Often the activities of shaykhs and dervishes centered on the graves of the founders of their orders, such as the shrine in this painting. It is not a picture of Jahangir as sometimes assumed.
